My friends don’t like my boyfriend

I am a 28-year old and have been dating a guy my age whom everyone dislikes except me. He is not very polite, and less educated than I am because of personal circumstances that prevented him from studying as much as I did. My family and friends also think he is unkind towards me, but I believe it is just the way he comes across because of poor social skills. I know he has flaws, but I believe we all have problems which is why I dont judge him by his bad qualities and focus on the positive aspects of his personality instead. We have been together for almost a year, and it has not been easy, but I am determined to make it work. I love him a lot and know there will be serious opposition from everyone in my life if I choose to marry him. I have been thinking about it a lot though and feel as if I am ready to take that step. Is it stupid of me to do this while knowing there will be little support?Its your life and, as an adult, you are perfectly entitled to make any decision that you believe is right for you. Awareness is great, as is the knowledge that choosing to be with this person may cause some friction or damage between family and friends. Its not impossible to go ahead nonetheless, but this is an important, life-altering decision, and it may make sense to take some time and evaluate all sides before committing to anything. Your partner may be great for you, and its true that you alone know him better than anyone else in your life, but wisdom often comes with patience and observation. It has been a year, so why not tell him about your plans, see if that changes how he behaves towards you, and get a sense of how everyone you know will react.
