Even as most sports followers in India are probably more occupied following the ICC T20 World Cup and perhaps the French Open in tennis too, there would be many more feeling sad at the retirement of one of the greatest sportspersons of India, Sunil Chhetri.

The India football skipper, who has had an impressive amount of international appearances and goals, decided to call it a day last week. It was a decision that Indian football lovers knew was not too far away and dreaded the day it would come.

What a fabulous career he has had and what an impact he has had on Indian football. The word great and legend is used quite loosely nowadays, but they fit Chhetri perfectly. Go well legend, enjoy your retirement, but please don’t go too far from Indian football.
