India pacer Mohammed Shami said the team’s morale is high despite poor show on the first two days of the ongoing third Test against England at Headingley.

India managed a paltry 78 in the first innings on Day One after winning the toss. In reply, England, who were 423-8 on Day Two, were bowled out for 432 on the third day on Friday.

“It happens sometimes, but there is no need to feel low because there are still two Tests left. We have finished matches in three days, many matches we have finished in two days,” Shami said during the virtual press conference after Thursday’s play.

Shami, who took 3-87, felt players have to believe in themselves. “We are 1-0 up, so there is no need to think [negative]…believe in your skill, and back yourself,” Shami said.

The England batters thoroughly dominated the Indian bowlers with England skipper Joe Root leading from the front, slamming 121 to bring up his third consecutive century of the series.

Shami defended Indian bowling. “When the pitch slows down, your skills get affected, the bounce gets lower. We managed edges, but they didn’t carry,” Shami explained.
