In the ninth match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, between India and Afghanistan, many records were broken at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium. Team India displayed a high-rated performance in front of the home crowd. Here is a list of records broken during the match.


Virat Kohli


What could have been a more proud moment for a person who started his career in a cricket stadium which he didn't know would one day have a stand on his name? Virat Kohli played the clash against Afghanistan in Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium where he started his cricketing career. Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in ICC World Cup history which is 2,278 runs in 45 innings. Virat Kohli smashed a total of 2,311 runs in 53 innings.


Virat Kohli is now the only player to have a 50+ batting average in all ICC white-ball tournaments. He averages 50.86 in the ODI World Cup, 81.50 in the T20I World Cup and 88.16 in the Champions Trophy.

Kohli also broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of most fifty-plus scores in successful run chases. The number of fifty-plus scores for Sachin Tendulkar is 45 and for Virat Kohli is 46.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma surpassed Chris Gayle's record for most sixes in international cricket, 553. Rohit Sharma now has 554 sixes in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma surpassed Virender Sehwag's record of the fastest century by an Indian in ICC World Cup which is 81 balls. The 'Hitman' of Indian cricket completed his century in just 63 balls.

Rohit Sharma became the player to hold the record for most centuries in the World Cup which is 7. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar had 6 centuries.

Indian skipper overcame Ricky Ponting's record of centuries in ODI which is 30. Sharma now has 31 centuries in the ODI format.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer currently holds the record of the biggest six in the ICC World Cup 2023. He smashed a huge 101-metre six against Afghanistan.

Jasprit Bumrah

Indian speedster achieved his best bowling figures in ODI World Cup which is 4 wickets for 39 runs.
