The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) nomination process for the chairman’s post ended on Tuesday evening (India time), according to ex-BCCI president, Shashank Manohar.

Speaking over the phone yesterday morning, a day after he resigned from the BCCI and ICC posts, Manohar said: “I tendered my resignation before the close of the nomination process on Tuesday.”

Explaining the nomination process for the ICC chairman’s post, one of the directors of a member nation said, “ICC’s 13 directors were voluntarily required to submit their secret nomination to Adnan Zaidi, the ICC’s Audit Committee chairman (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

The confidential nominations will be studied and scrutinised by him and within two weeks, he will obtain consent of all candidates before the election.”

“England’s Giles Clarke, who was keen on the post, has put his hands down and is now content with the Finance Committee chairmanship,” the source added.

Unopposed?
“During the last ICC board meeting in Dubai, it was unanimously decided to have Manohar as chairman and therefore he is set to be elected unopposed.  The two important posts (ICC chairman and Finance Committee chairman) will remain with India and England. This understanding was reached with all Board members,” the source explained. Meanwhile, Manohar seemed to be ‘relaxed’, the morning after quitting the BCCI post. “I am always relaxed”, he emphasised.
