India-Iran 75th anniversary: Foreign ministers share warm messages of friendship

India-Iran 75th anniversary: Foreign ministers share warm messages of friendship

On the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister shared a special message to India, which was warmly reciprocated by India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar. This exchange of friendly gestures highlights the growing importance of the India-Iran relationship in the current global geopolitical landscape. Despite tensions between Israel and Iran, with the United States supporting Israel, India has remained steadfast in its historical ties with Iran, advocating for peace in the region. The longstanding relationship between the two countries is built on mutual respect and cooperation, which has only strengthened over time. Since India and Iran signed a formal 'Friendship Treaty' on March 15, 1950, their ties have deepened, with key agreements like the Tehran and New Delhi Declarations in 2001 and 2003. One of the most significant partnerships is India's involvement in the development of Chabahar Port in Iran. The Chabahar Agreement, signed in May 2016 by India, Iran, and Afghanistan, established a vital International Transport and Transit Corridor, further enhancing India's presence in the Middle East. Iranian Ambassador Iraj Elahi, in a February statement, called Chabahar Port the "golden gateway" for regional connectivity, emphasizing its importance in strengthening India-Iran ties. India has already provided around 24 million US dollars in port equipment for Chabahar, with more to come. Iran also plays a crucial role in multilateral organizations like the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), highlighting its commitment to regional cooperation on economic and security matters.

Pakistan train hijack: Big Update!

Pakistan train hijack: Big Update! "All militants neutralized" Says Pak Army

A Pakistani army commander announced on March 15 that all militants involved in the hijacking of a train in the southwestern mountains had been "neutralized." Brigadier Umar Altaf confirmed the operation, saying the army used "precision targeting" to end the siege. The hijacked train, still in the remote mountain pass in Balochistan province, showed signs of the attack, including broken windows and shattered glass. Armed soldiers were seen guarding the area during the media visit. The hijacking took place on March 11, when militants took control of the Jaffar Express in a remote pass, blew up train tracks, and held passengers hostage for more than a day. The military reported that 31 people, including soldiers, railway staff, and civilians, had died as a result of the attack. Pakistan's military also accused India and Afghanistan of supporting the insurgents, although both countries denied the claims. The separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which took responsibility for the attack, claimed its fighters had escaped with 214 hostages and later executed them. However, there was no evidence to support this. Army spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that 33 militants were killed, 354 hostages were rescued, and the siege was brought to an end. Chaudhry also revised the death toll, confirming 23 soldiers, three railway employees, and five passengers died in the attack and the subsequent rescue operation. Pakistan has previously accused the BLA of exaggerating claims, and the group, which seeks independence for Balochistan, has been involved in long-running insurgencies against the Pakistani government.
