Sheva Koliwada Villagers Threaten Election Boycott Over Delayed Rehabilitation

The fishermen families of Sheva Koliwada, displaced by the JNPT Phase 2 project, have been waiting for over 40 years for rehabilitation and compensation. Despite multiple promises from politicians and local authorities, their demands remain unmet. Frustrated by the lack of action, the villagers have now threatened to boycott the upcoming State Legislative Assembly election on November 20. They also plan to launch a major protest on November 26, blocking JNPT’s main navigation channel if their demands are ignored. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2024: Grand celebrations in Maharashtra

Celebrations broke out across Maharashtra on the occasion of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2024’ on February 19. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered a garland to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the 394th birth anniversary. On Shivaji’s birth anniversary, people performed ‘Aarti’ and celebrated the occasion. People in Nagpur, Maharashtra, gathered in large numbers on the streets and offered Aarti as a part of celebrations of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Per the Gregorian calendar, the state observes Shivaji Jayanti with an annual public holiday on February 19. Nonetheless, a sizable population of Maharashtrians commemorate the event on the third day of Phalgun in the Hindu calendar.

Death toll in Raigad landslide rises to 22, NDRF continues search operations

The death toll in the Raigad landslide in Maharashtra has risen to 22 with the recovery of six more bodies. NDRF continued search and rescue operation at Irshalgad landslide-hit area amid heavy rainfall. The mishap took place in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur Tehsil in Raigad on July 19. Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai, inundating low-lying areas.

Maharashtra Rains: Landslide in Raigad claims 4 lives, 100 trapped

Four persons have died due to a major landslide in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur tehsil of Maharashtra’s Raigad. At least three persons sustained injuries in the incident. Rescue operation is underway, so far, 30 people have been rescued. Soon after the incident, the Raigad Police set up a control room to monitor the situation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde arrived at the site of the landslide in Irshalwadi village and took stock of the situation. NDRF teams have rushed to the site amid reports of at least 100 persons feared to be trapped. The landslide occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday at Irshalwadi village in Khalapur tehsil. Home Minister Amit Shah Condoled the lost lives in the incident.

Heavy rainfall was witnessed in several areas of Mumbai on July 19. The India Metrological Department has issued a Red Alert for Palghar and Raigad districts. Also, an Orange Alert has been issued for Thane, Mumbai and Ratnagiri. Heavy showers resulted in flooding at Rasayani police station in Raigad district on Wednesday morning, hampering the work,Due to the downpour, a flood-like situation was witnessed in parts of the district. Meanwhile, Raigad District Collector Yogesh Mhase announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district today in view of heavy rains.

Mumbai Rains: IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange alert for heavy rains in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. While a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai on June 29 and 30. As per the Regional Meteorological Centre, the island city, eastern and western suburbs received 12.44 mm, 42.41 mm and 40.46 mm of rainfall respectively between 8 am to 12 noon on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, there were 26 incidents of tree fall, 15 short-circuits, and five incidents of collapse/partial collapse of houses in Mumbai, as per the civic body. There was no report of any major water-logging in low-lying areas, officials of the BMC informed. Suburban trains on the Central Railway and Western Railway routes were running normally, though they were delayed by a few minutes, informed railway officials. Andheri subway was flooded because of heavy downpour but traffic was running smoothly soon and there was no major waterlogging. IMD scientist Soma Sen said, "The monsoon is active currently with its rapid advancement in the last 4-5 days. Leaving some parts of northwest India, the monsoon has impacted almost the entire country. Entire Gujarat and south-east Rajasthan have been covered by the monsoon. In the next two days, it is expected that south Punjab, Haryana and the remaining parts of Rajasthan will be covered."

Raigad Bus Accident: Mumbai-bound bus falls into a gorge

Twelve people were killed and over 29 persons sustained injuries after a bus fell into a ditch in the Khopoli area of Raigad in Maharashtra on April 15. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis expressed his sorrow over the incident.He said, “The Khopoli incident is extremely painful. Around 41 passengers were travelling on the bus. 12 people died on spot and remaining were rescued. 18 passengers have been admitted to MGM hospital. 10 have been admitted to Khopoli Nagarpalika Hospital and 1 has been admitted to Jhakotia hospital. The government will help the family members of those impacted in the accident. Investigation is under process to find out the reasons behind this accident. My sympathies are with those who lost their close ones in the accident,” he added.
