Jimmy Carter, the longest-lived U.S. president, passes away at 100

Jimmy Carter, the 100-year-old former US president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has passed away. He had been receiving hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, since February 2023. Carter, who was born and raised in Plains, Georgia, and once ran a peanut farm, served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was the longest-living US president, a milestone he reached despite being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015. Before his presidency, Carter served as governor of Georgia and as a US Navy lieutenant. While his presidency was often seen as disappointing, Carter went on to have a long and impactful post-presidency. The Carter Center announced that public memorials will be held in Atlanta and Washington, DC, followed by a private funeral in Plains, Georgia. After former President Jimmy Carter died on 29th December, the world rushed to offer condolences and shared the accomplishments of the 39th president, who was 100. President Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Kamala Harris mourned the death of Jimmy Carter.  Carter's wife of more than 75 years, Rosalynn, who was known for her advocacy in mental health and humanitarian causes, passed away in November 2023 at the age of 96. The Carters were the longest-married presidential couple in US history.

Manmohan Singh to be accorded state funeral, 7 days National mourning declared

To honour the former PM Manmohan Singh, Modi government has declared 7 days of national mourning. Singh passed away at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions, AIIMS informed. Notification from the Government of India also informed that Cabinet is to meet today i.e on December 27 at 11 am. Manmohan Singh’s last rites will be conducted with full state honours, the officials added. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been credited as the architect of India's economic reforms. Before taking office as the Prime Minister in 2004, Dr Manmohan Singh served in different positions in Govt of India. He became India’s 14th Prime Minister with an uninterrupted tenure of 10 years till 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders poured in tributes and condoled the demise of veteran leader.
