The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in Puducherry on Sunday as Cyclone Fengal made landfall on the coast on Saturday evening. The cyclone hit the Union Territory's coastline at 7 PM on Saturday, causing severe weather conditions. Rescue operations are underway to evacuate stranded residents. According to IMD, Puducherry is expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday, followed by moderate rainfall on December 2. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with teams deployed for rescue and relief efforts to ensure the safety of the affected population and manage any disruptions caused by the cyclone's impact.

Chennai airport has been shut till 7 pm. Relief camps have been set up at multiple places for people living near the coastal areas. On July 22, 2016, the airplane had inexplicably disappeared over the Bay of Bengal, carrying 29 people. The airplane search and rescue operation grew to be one of India's largest. On August 1, 2016, it was discovered that the aircraft lacked an underwater location beacon, and the rescue effort was called off on September 15, 2016. The National Institute of Ocean Technology employed an AUV to identify a missing aircraft on the seabed about 310 kilometers off the coast of Chennai. The search was carried out at a depth of 3400 m with various payloads. The search images were scrutinized and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft.

As per the weather department, Cyclone Michaung, centered over the west coast of the Bay of Bengal, off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts, is likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast in the form of a severe cyclonic storm. Cyclonic storm Michaung is set to make landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on December 5 around noon. Michaung’s wind speed is anticipated to reach severe cyclonic levels, with a maximum sustained speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. Yesterday, an orange alert was given by IMD for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts as cyclone Michaung approached the South Andhra coast. Meanwhile, as rain lashed Chennai several areas of Chennai and its neighboring districts were inundated due to which public life was severely affected. Several trees were uprooted as strong winds swept Tamil Nadu on December 04 subways were closed due to severe waterlogging in Chennai.
