Doctors and locals from Mumbai held protest at Azad Maidan to protest against Kolkata doctor rape-murder. Speaking on the protest, Dr Prerna Gomes from Jaslok Hospital said, "We request the government that every organisation should have safety audit...What is the point if we are not safe even after more than 70 years of independence? Doctors always first think of the patients and not their safety. The workplace has to be safe for us."

As thousands marched into Mumbai demanding Maratha Reservation, supporters of Maratha Reservation in huge numbers were seen heading towards Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The Maratha Reservation rally led by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil, thousands of protestors have gathered in Mumbai demanding Maratha reservation. The protesters, led by Jarange, intend to begin a hunger strike at Azad Maidan, seeking Kunbi (OBC) status for the Maratha community. Despite Mumbai Police denying permission for a hunger strike in city, Maratha quota leader Manoj Jarange, accompanied by thousands, had reached Navi Mumbai earlier in the day. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said everyone has the right to protest but it should be done peacefully, amid opposition allegations that the government is taking the Marathas for a ride.

MSRTC protestors tried to enter the city, but were stopped by police at various points. However, the protestors reached Azad Maidan on Wednesday. It has suspended 542 more employees from 63 depots and one workshop across 20 divisions, taking the total tally to 918.

On January 26, thousands of farmers who had gathered in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan from various districts of Maharashtra, unfurled India’s Tricolour on the occasion of the country’s 72nd Republic Day, amidst roaring chants of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan. On Tuesday, the Indian tricolour was hoisted at Azad Maidan by Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nanasaheb Patole and 73-year-old protestor Yamuna Tai Jadhavkar, followed by the national anthem. Several contractual workers hired for sanitation and other work when the pandemic was at its peak, have launched a protest alleging the government has terminated them. The frontline workers from across Maharashtra, many of whom are staying put at Azad Maidan, said they were once called Corona warriors by the prime minister, but have been conveniently forgotten, just before the vaccination drive began.
