Mad World: Tribals gone wild

Marubo members install the satellite antennas in the village with enthusiasm

Starlink, a satellite internet constellation, initiated by Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, aimed to provide internet access to a tribal community in Amazon, but ended up getting them hooked to social media and pornography addiction. The primary aim of this initiative was to connect the 2,000-member Marubo community, along the Ituí River in Brazil to the web, but took a downward turn when they started getting addicted to the reels and pornography online.  “When it arrived, everyone was happy,” Tsainama Marubo, 73, told The New York Times. “But now, things have gotten worse. Young people have gotten lazy because of the internet and are learning the ways of the white people.”

Alfredo Marubo (the entire community uses the same surname) defined how the sudden transition from frowning on even the slightest public displays of affection to sharing porn videos in group chats, is upending the standards of decorum. “We’re worried young people are going to want to try it,” said Alfredo, describing the sudden exposure to this erotic content online. “Everyone is so connected that sometimes they don’t even talk to their own family.”

The Starlink has a standard system of connecting antennas to 6,000 low-orbiting satellites. These required antennas were donated to the tribe by American entrepreneur Allyson Reneau. Initially, the internet was heralded as a positive initiative to help them quickly contact authorities for help with emergencies, including fatal snake bites. Members also shared that this initiative helped them save lives and connect with other Amazonian tribes, and their friends and families outside of the rainforest. It has also laid out different professional possibilities for the youngsters out there. One teen told The Times that she now dreams of traveling the world, while another says she aspires to become a dentist in São Paulo.

However, their parents are also concerned about its downsides, like being lazy, not hunting or bringing home anything to eat, experimenting and mimicking dangerous online games, and losing the Marubo culture forever.  Kâipa Marubo, a father, said.

Bone-chilling blast

The Aztec death whistle will strike feat in your hears

This whistle will blow your mind out with its screeching and horrifying sounds. The Aztec death whistle, widely considered the scream of a thousand corpses, creates one of the most terrifying sounds in human history. Originally used during sacrificial ceremonies, this creepy tool was once considered an ode to the Mesoamerican god of wind, Ehecatl. Experts have now recreated the noise by 3D printing a version of the skull-shaped instrument. “This has been deemed the most terrifying sound in the world,” said James Orgill, the host of an educational YouTube channel called Action Lab. “Believe it or not, this is not a human scream. The sound that the death whistle makes innately strikes fear into your heart.”
