External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Pakistan on October 15 for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, hosted in Islamabad on October 15-16. This will mark Jaishankar`s first visit to Pakistan in his capacity as India`s External Affairs Minister. The announcement follows an invitation extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Pakistan for the summit, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in August. The SCO, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, comprises nine member states: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The organization focuses on regional cooperation in political, economic, and security matters. Jaishankar`s participation is seen as a significant diplomatic step, potentially paving the way for dialogue and cooperation in the region.
