Priyanka Gandhi leads in Wayanad, BJP ahead in Palakkad Assembly seat

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who made her poll debut from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, was leading in the early trends on Saturday.  Priyanka Gandhi edged forward as the postal votes and home votes were being counted. As per the Election Commission officials, she was now leading by 24,000 votes after the EVM counting also started. However, at the keenly fought triangular poll battle in the Palakkad Assembly constituency, it was C.Krishnakumar the BJP candidate who was leading the postal and home votes counting began and by 1,016 votes. At Chelakkara Assembly constituency, the CPI(M) candidate U.R. Pradeep was leading by 1,890 votes when the counting of votes at the EVMs began. Incidentally, it’s only at Palakkad where there is a real triangular fight, while at Wayanad, it’s a foregone conclusion that Priyanka Gandhi will romp home and the only question is whether she will beat her brother Rahul Gandhi’s vote margin. At Chelakkara, where the poll battle is going on as this seat has been held by the CPI(M) since 1996 and Congress candidate Ramya Haridas is giving a tight fight to Pradeep. Till the counting of votes began all three political fronts were hoping for the best and the million-dollar question was whether it would have something for each one of them to cheer about. Polling for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election and the Chelakkara Assembly constituencies was held on November 13, while for the Palakkad Assembly constituency, it was held on Wednesday. All three by-elections are taking place after the sitting members of these vacated their seats. While Rahul Gandhi vacated Wayanand to retain Rae Bareli, Shafi Parambil of the Congress from Palakkad and State Minister of SC/ST K.Radhakrishnan vacated their winning seats at Palakkad and Chelakkara respectively. No victory processions allowed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The district authorities in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have banned victory processions on Saturday when the results of the Maharashtra elections 2024 will be declared. District collector Dilip Swami held a meeting with top police officials on Friday, a day before the counting of votes. In a video message released after the meeting, Swami said, "I have spoken to the top police officials from the city as well as rural parts of the district. When the results come out, the situation turns a little tense. So in order to avoid law and order issues, we are not going to allow any victory procession on the result day." "Sometimes, party workers come together and sometimes their coming together turns into a procession. We are not going to allow that also. Later, once everything is peaceful, we will allow the processions. We have issued prohibitory orders accordingly," he said. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar

Centre must arrest Adani to save India's reputation, says Karnataka Dy CM

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government of protecting industrialist Gautam Adani, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar on Friday called for his arrest to save the country's reputation. Addressing a press conference at the KPCC office, he said, "Our leader Rahul Gandhi has been highlighting corruption by industrialist Adani. Despite that, investigative agencies have not taken any action." "An American Court has indicted Adani in connection with irregularities in a green energy project. The Centre must take this seriously and bring him to book. The BJP government has arrested many Opposition leaders including chief ministers, why can't it arrest an industrialist," he questioned. "There is no point in protecting Adani. The government has to protect the people of the country who have invested thousands of crores in Adani's companies," he urged. Asked about BJP leaders challenging the Congress government to attach Adani's assets in Karnataka, he said, "Let the Union government initiate an inquiry and communicate to the state government to take action, then we will take suitable action here." Replying to a query if the State government would cancel Adani Group's Rs 20,000 crore investments in the state, he said, "We are not against any investment which is clean. We will discuss this during the Invest Karnataka event." Meanwhile, Opposition parties on Thursday pressed for a JPC probe into alleged bribery allegations with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleging that a key player in the "corruption scandal" is the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a Government of India company. The Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against directors of Adani Green. While the BJP said the law will take its course and slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. MVA will win with majority, CM face to be decided after results, says Congress

Expressing confidence in the outcome of the Maharashtra elections 2024, state Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala on Friday said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would form the government with a majority. He added that the Chief Minister's post would be decided after the poll results are announced, reported news agency ANI. "Maha Vikas Aghadi will form the government in the state with a majority... The CM face will be decided after the results, and a discussion will be held," Ramesh Chennithala told ANI. Taking a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he claimed that the people of the state had voted against the 'jod tod ki sarkar' (government of defections). Meanwhile, the State's Chief Electoral Officer, S Chockalingam, lauded the efforts of Election Commission officers and employees, stating that the ECI had given "focus, attention and time" to the Maharashtra elections 2024. "The Election Commission of India devoted significant focus, attention, and time to Maharashtra this time. Every strategy was meticulously conceptualised and implemented, leading to a substantial increase in the voter list between the Parliamentary elections and the current elections. Efforts were made to simplify voting, especially in Mumbai, where we faced challenges during the Parliamentary elections, but this time everyone praised the arrangements," he said, reported ANI. "A great deal of work has been done. The Election Commission thanks all voters who came out to vote, ensuring history was made. We achieved a 5 per cent increase in voter turnout. Nearly six lakh officers and employees worked diligently to facilitate voting and ensure the process was smooth," he added, reported ANI. In Maharashtra, the BJP is in alliance with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party under the Mahayuti banner. A minimum of 145 seats is required to secure a majority in the 288-seat assembly. (With inputs from ANI)

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai conducted a late-night inspection in Delhi's border areas to review the enforcement of GRAP-4 anti-pollution measures and said 135 to 165 trucks violating the restrictions are being turned away daily. "Late tonight, visited the Narela/Singhu border and inspected the implementation of GRAP-4," Rai posted on X. Speaking at site, Rai said that complaints have been received about unauthorised vehicles being allowed entry at Delhi's borders. "Today, we received multiple complaints about unauthorised vehicles entering Delhi through various borders without being checked. That's why we came here to inspect the situation," Rai said. During the inspection late Friday night, Rai said that between 135 to 165 trucks are being turned away daily from November 18 at Delhi's borders for violating the restrictions imposed under Graded Response Action Plan-4. Only CNG, electric, and BS-VI compliant vehicles are allowed entry into the city, while all other trucks are banned to reduce pollution levels, the minister said. He added that strict penalties are being imposed on violators. "Those who fail to comply are being fined," he said. Rai also appealed to truck owners and drivers to follow the restrictions, emphasising that the ban is necessary to tackle Delhi's severe air pollution. He also issued strict instructions to officials to ensure no lapses occur in enforcement. "As long as GRAP-4 is in place, all measures must be strictly followed. There should be no negligence in its implementation," he directed. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
