Two people were arrested when authorities in Maharashtra's Beed district found an unlawful prenatal sex determination centre, according to a report released on Friday, stated a report in  PTI.

According to the report, the district officials in Sanjay Nagar, Gevrai, seized an abortion pill and a sonography machine from the clinic which was performing the unlawful prenatal sex determination.

The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT Act) forbids identifying the sex of an unborn child; the law was introduced to curb female foeticide in India.

On Thursday morning, officials sent a pregnant woman to the clinic after receiving a complaint. A team of police, revenue, and health officials carried out a raid after obtaining confirmation of the illegal prenatal sex determination.

A third person was able to flee while a man and a woman were captured. Abortion drugs and a sonography machine for assessing foetal sex were among the confiscated materials. The police station in Gevrai has filed a case.

Meanwhile, an incident of child marriage has surfaced from Navi Mumbai wherein a 29-year-old man was married to a 12-year-old girl. He had reportedly raped her multiple times and impregnated her. According to the PTI report, the child marriage took place six months ago.

Both the girl and the accused are from Satara district. Reportedly, a Panvel-based physician who was surveying on Thursday discovered that the girl was four months pregnant and informed the authorities.

According to the Khandeshwar police station's station house officer, the guy is the subject of a case filed under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the PTI report added.

Reportedly in another case, a doctor has been booked for suspected rape and abetting suicide of a teenage girl whose body was discovered in his clinic in Malad suburb of Mumbai.  According to the official, the incident occurred on December 28 at the clinic where the girl was employed, a PTI report added.

The mother of the deceased stated that her doctor had complained of the doctor's impolite attitude and based on the family's complaint, the cops registered a case against the doctor under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), and IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 376 (punishment for rape).
