The airline industry is on a drive to appease itsu00a0 passengers who are stranded in airports, thanks to the fog prevailing over Delhi and northern India.



With regular delays and flight cancellations, passengers are experiencing inconvenience as they either have to wait for long hours at the airport or go back home after flight cancellations. In a bid to woo them, companies are making all efforts, right from sending alerts through text messages to providing hotel accommodation.

An official from GoAir mentions that their call centre and website (flight status section) provide updated information on the status of every flight. They are also sending updated information to the passengers in the form of text messages as soon as there are any changes in flight status. "We are also providing regular situation updates at the airport and refreshments in case of delayed or cancelled flights. Passengers are either sent on another GoAir flight, or with other airlines, or are offered a refund," said the official.

The official from Kingfisher airlines said that in case of cancellation of a flight, the entire fare is refunded or the
passengers are put up in an alternative flight depending on their availability. "In case of a diversion to another city other than the scheduled destination, hotel accommodation is provided or we compensate the passengers with Rs 2,500," said the official.

Aditya Ghosh, President of IndiGo airlines, said, "We have tried very hard to deliver a hassle free travel experience to our passengers." Besides these, regular announcements are made inside the security hold area.

There is constant
monitoring and coordination mechanism between operations control centre, airport operations, and the call centre that runs round the clock.

Meanwhile the city airport is also cooperating with passengers. "We are helping the passengers with their issues and details. But, the problem here is minimal compared to other cities," said R N Singh, an official from the Pune airport.
