A special court in Maharashtra`s Thane on Tuesday sentenced a 39-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl in 2019. Special court judge D S Deshmukh, hearing cases pertaining to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, held Ritesh Pasco Koli from Uttan village in Bhayandar guilty and pronounced the verdict.

The National Auto-Taxi-Bus Transport Federation on Tuesday threatened to go on strike if the Centre did not repeal a provision in the new penal law on hit-and-run road accidents. Many parts of Maharashtra witnessed protests by truckers and fuel tanker drivers against a provision in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaces the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC).
