Daily toll drops to 1; state sees significant rise in both cases and deaths, at 699 and 19, respectively

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation added 191 new cases to its official Covid-19 tally on Tuesday, recording a rise of 23 infections in 24 hours. The test positivity rate (TPR) rose, too, but marginally, from 0.59 per cent to 0.62 per cent.


The city saw a drop in newly confirmed fatalities, at one. The deceased had comorbidities and was above the age of 60, according to the BMC’s report on Tuesday.


The doubling rate deteriorated, as it declined to 2,940 days on Tuesday from 3,079 days the day before.


The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 235 more patients were discharged after full recovery.

According to the Maharashtra health department report, the state-wide infection and death tallies rose significantly. The state reported 699 cases and 19 deaths, up from 518 infections and five fatalities registered the day before. 

The case fatality rate in the state remained constant at 2.12 per cent. After 1,087 more patients were discharged on Tuesday, the state had 6,445 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also registered a significant spike in new cases, at 323, including the ones from Mumbai.

At 40, the Thane Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR after Mumbai. Navi Mumbai recorded 37 cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 11, Vasai-Virar 16, and Raigad and Panvel seven each.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths, one each in Panvel, Vasai-Virar and Thane.
