Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Lok Sabha MP, Sunil Tatkare, reiterated the Maharashtra government's dedication to establishing legally sustainable reservations for the Maratha community, stated a report in PTI. Tatkare, addressing reporters in Thane, discussed the historical context of Maratha reservations and the associated legal challenges, emphasizing the community's justified demand for reservation.

According to the report, He also mentioned the collaborative efforts of the "Mahayuti" alliance, comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), and BJP, as they work towards achieving "Mission 45 plus" and securing over 45 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Tatkare assured that the seat distribution among the Mahayuti constituents would be conducted meticulously and involve leaders at both the state and national levels.
"The constituents of the 'Mahayuti', the Shiv Sena, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) and BJP are now working towards 'Mission 45 plus' and are sure to bag more than 45 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections," said Tatkare according to the PTI report.
Tatkare touched upon the previous grant of reservations to the Marathas based on the Rane committee's recommendations, which faced legal obstacles. He stressed the government's determination to establish a reservation system that could withstand legal scrutiny. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP's state unit president said that the Maratha community's demand for quota is justified and that they should receive it.
"I have traced the history of reservations given to the Marathas and its journey and the issues faced by it in the judiciary," he was quoted as saying.
Acknowledging the concerns of the Sakal Maratha Samaj and the issue of suicides related to reservations, Tatkare pledged to address the matter in Delhi. He later engaged with a delegation of Maratha leaders, urging them to avoid extreme measures.
During Tatkare's visit to the city, activists and leaders of Maratha Mahasangh expressed their dissent by displaying black flags and chanting slogans. Ramesh Ambre, a representative from the delegation, explained their actions as a response to the challenge of meeting with leaders during their visits. "Whenever a leader comes to our town or city, we are not allowed to meet them. Hence, we showed black flags to Tatkare," Ambre told PTI.
