Proceedings of the Maharashtra state legislative assembly were briefly adjourned, for ten minutes, on Thursday following disruptions by ruling party MLAs over the ongoing Disha Salian case.

BJP MLA Ameet Satam raised the issue in the assembly, demanding an inquiry and action against those named by Disha’s father, Satish Salian, in his petition before the Bombay High Court. On Wednesday, Satish Salian moved the court seeking the registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray and others in connection with his daughter’s death.

Satam reminded the house that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been constituted in December 2022 to probe Disha’s death. “When will the inquiry be completed and taken to its logical conclusion?” he questioned.

Supporting Satam’s demand, BJP leader and Minister Nitesh Rane called for the arrest of those named in the petition. This triggered an uproar in the house, with ruling party MLAs shouting slogans and demanding action from the government.

Amid the escalating chaos, Speaker Rahul Narwekar adjourned the proceedings for ten minutes. When the session resumed, disruptions continued as members persisted with their demands. In response, Narwekar assured that he would ask the concerned minister to address the issue but warned that further disruptions would not be tolerated.

Later, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam informed the house that the government would take appropriate action. “No one will be spared, irrespective of their political affiliation. The state government has also been made a party to the petition. Once we receive the details, action will be taken as per the court’s directives,” he stated.

Attempt to malign me, will reply to allegations in court: Aaditya on Disha Salian case

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday said attempts were being made to malign his image over the June 2020 accidental death case of Disha Salian, and he will present his side before the court.

"Attempts are being made for the last five years to malign my image. We will put forth our side in the court. We will give our replies (to the allegations) in the court," Thackeray, a former Maharashtra minister, told reporters.

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling off the 14th floor of a residential building in suburban Malad. The city police had then registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) case. Six days later, Bollywood star Rajput allegedly committed suicide in his apartment in Bandra.
