Dumper driver mows down senior citizen in Prabhadevi, caught by traffic cop at next signal

A dumper driver, who tried to flee after running down a 76-year-old woman in Prabhadevi, was chased and caught by a traffic police constable. The woman was crossing the road when the truck hit her, and she was taken to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Sion, where the doctors declared her dead before admission. According to the information received from the police, at 11.30 pm on Friday, Sharda Devi Mansingh Thakur was crossing the road near Veer Savarkar Road at Prabhadevi Junction when a dumper hit her and fled.


The traffic police constable on duty, Satish Bhagat, chased the dumper and caught the driver at the next signal. The Dadar police has arrested accused Vijendra Pal, who lives in Antop Hill and works as a driver. “Pal has been booked under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 184 (driving dangerously) , 134 (a) (b) (abetment of such assault) of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act,” the officer told mid-day. Raja Singh, son of Sharda Devi Singh, told mid-day, “The truck went over my mother’s stomach and she had a serious head injury.”
