A day after a fake doctor was arrested by the Virar police, another similar incident came to light on Friday when the Vasai police arrested a female teacher from the school she was teaching at. The police said the accused had been illegally teaching for the last 20 years, after having submitted fake degrees. When the school management realised the degrees were fake, they registered an FIR.

The accused, identified as Maria Dias, was teaching at the Holy Cross English High School at Nirmal area in Vasai. Dias had been teaching English. In October, the school principal Father Michael Tuscano found out that Dias didn’t have a BEd degree.

According to the police official, Dias submitted fake degrees of Mumbai University and Yashvantrao Chavan University to get the job in 2001. The incident came to light after Dias’ brother, who was involved in a property dispute with her, complained to the school management.

Speaking with mid-day, PSI Gokul Mahanavar of Vasai police station said, “We received a complaint from the school management about the teacher. On the basis of the complaint made by the brother, the school investigated the matter. We have arrested Dias under several acts for forgery. On Saturday, we produced Dias in the court and she was remanded to jail custody.”
