COVID-19: Mumbai and Maharashtra see lower number of cases again

As per the BMC, on Sunday, 3,672 cases were reported in Mumbai. There were 28,636 tests conducted.

After reporting more than 65,000 daily cases over the week, the number of COVID-19 cases dropped to 56,000 on Sunday across the state. This may be the result of fewer tests over the weekend. The cases in Mumbai also remained below 4,000. While it seems cases are declining the number of deaths is a cause of concern. Mumbai registered 79 deaths on Sunday while the state recorded 669 deaths.


As per the BMC, on Sunday, 3,672 cases were reported in Mumbai. There were 28,636 tests conducted. 


At least 5,542 patients recovered and the active patients lowered to 57,342 in Mumbai. But 79 deaths were registered, out of which 35 had comorbidities, 43 deaths were above the age of 60 years, 32 were between 40 and 60 years of age and 4 deaths were below 40 years of age. The recovery rate increased to 89 per cent and the doubling rate of the city is now 103 days.


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 9,700 cases, including the ones in Mumbai. The cases dropped below 10,000 after almost a month as major cities are showing a declining trend. Cities like Thane recorded 751 cases, Navi Mumbai 470, and Kalyan-Dombivli 742. But cases are still rising in Thane district, 1,092. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 77 deaths out of which 30 were reported in Kalyan-Dombivali, 12 in Thane city and 10 in Navi Mumbai.

The number of new cases in the state was 56,647. Pune Circle reported the highest with 15,776, Nashik circle reported 8,024 cases and Nagpur 8,909 cases. There were 669 deaths - 129  in Pune, 92 in Nashik and 88 in Latur. A total of 51,356 patients were discharged across Maharashtra.
