COVID-19 cases spike in Mumbai and Maharashtra again

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the city and Maharashtra. On Wednesday Maharashtra recorded 9,855 cases while the city count cases was 1,121.


While the state’s new cases are the highest in the past three and half months, taking the total tally to 21.79 lakh cases, fortunately, the mortality is in control. There were 42 COVID-19 related deaths recorded taking the total to 52,280 deaths in all.


After recording less than 1,000 cases in the past two days the city again witnessed a spike. However, the drop in the past few days was due to fewer number of tests, revealed sources. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporations continued to record cases in three digits; 249, 159 and 246 respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 


The state’s recovery rate stands at 93.77 per cent with 6,559 patients discharged on Wednesday. Mumbai’s recovery rate too has dropped and stands at 93 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped to 235 days. The city’s overall growth rate has increased in the past one week and currently stands at 0.29 per cent. There are 10,010 on going cases in the city.

The mortality rate of the state has dropped to 2.40 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state is 1,213 so far. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications. 

According to the state government’s data Akola circle recorded 16 deaths, Amravati recorded 8 death cases and Yawatmal recorded 6 death cases. MMR recorded 6 cases and all were reported from Mumbai. Civic officials said out of these 6 deaths, 6 patients were suffering from other ailments and all 6 deaths were of senior citizens.
