An offence was registered on October 22, at Antop Hill police station by a taxi driver who said that his car’s silencer was stolen during the night. Along with Antop Hill police station, the Property Cell of the Crime Branch was conducting a parallel investigation of the offence as well. During investigation, the Property Cell received a tip-off that few silencer thieves are coming to Wadala to sell their wares. A trap was laid and three thieves and two scrap dealers were arrested.
“Most of the silencers have precious metals, but smaller cars also have significant height clearance, making it easy for the accused to remove it within a few minutes. These accused are residents of Antop Hill and have been involved in thefts across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” said an officer from the Property Cell.
The accused have been identified as Ali Raza Chote Miyan Mirza alias Nadeem, Deepak Waghmare, Altaf Sirajuddin Sheikh, and Mohammed Mohsin Mohammed Hasin Sheikh, Zubaid Rehman Khan, who are both scrap dealers. “The silencers have metal such as Rhodium, Palladium and Platinum. The accused used to remove the metal dust, and then sell the silencer to scrap dealers for R15,000,” said Inspector Shashikant Pawar, who is in charge of the Property Cell.
