The Mumbai Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) gives a nod to late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial.

The premises will be spread across an area of 1, 19,130 square feet and will include the former mayor's bungalow, states The Indian Express.

Earlier, the bunglow was handed over to the Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial Public Trust which is headed by state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.

As per plans submitted by the BMC to MCZMA, the mayor bungalow will be used as a museum. The memorial will also include an art gallery, museum shop, library and archives along with a water fountain in the premise.

As the bunglow is a Grade II-B heritage structure, the authority said major changes cannot be allowed.

Also, the MCZMA approved the memorial plan on nine conditions. One of the instructions reads that BMC has to retain the structure. It said, “MCGM to ensure that the mayor bungalow should be retained and no construction is allowed towards the sea-ward side of the original plinth.”

The Mumbai municipal corporation has bought the bungalow in 1962 and was used by BMC's first Mayor Dr BP Devgi as an official residence.
