At least 16 people were injured in a cylinder blast inside a residential building at Ganesh Galli, Lalbaug on Sunday morning, a fire official said.

The Disaster Management Department of the BMC said that the incident occurred on the second floor of the four-storey Sarabhai building at 7.23 am on Sunday. Mumbai Fire Brigade reached the spot with tankers. The fire official added it was a "level one" (minor) fire.

The residents of Sarabhai building, where the cylinder blast took place, have been shifted to nearby Hiramani hotel in Lalbaug.
As per latest reports, 14 out of the 16 injured are in criticial condition, 10 are being treated in KEM hospital and 4 in Masina hospital.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited KEM hospital to meet the injured. The mayor said that MHADA officials have been instructed to repair the damaged building immediately.
