The Ghatkopar police are on the lookout for 21-year-old suspect who allegedly raped a 24-year-old woman after spiking her drink, recorded the incident and then threatened to make the video viral unless she paid him. The suspect extorted Rs 5 lakh in cash and 15 tolas of gold from the victim.


According to the police, the incident occurred in Ghatkopar, where they both reside. “The accused and victim are residing in the same locality and known to each other. In April 2023, the accused called the victim for a talk at his home. He spiked the water that he offered to her with drugs. When the woman lost her consciousness, he allegedly raped her and captured the incident on his mobile phone. He later used the video to blackmail the victim, forcing her to hand over a significant amount of cash and gold ,” said an officer.


The accused shared the video with the victim, over several months, fearing disrepute in society and her family, the victim took loans from friends and relatives under various pretexts and also stole jewelry from family members to meet the suspect’s demands. As the woman continued to yield, the suspect’s demands kept mounting, forcing the victim to confide in her family. Her family wholeheartedly supported the victim in this hour of need. After learning the truth, the family then decided to seek help from the police and lodged a case at the Ghatkopar police station.


“We have registered a case under sections 376, 328, 506, and 384 of the IPC. We are conducting a thorough investigation and are determined to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible,” said another officer from the Ghatkopar police station.
