The Mumbai police have arrested three persons for allegedly stealing mobile phones onboard crowded BEST buses and recovered 32 stolen devices, an official said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.


The accused Shoeb Mobin Khan (21), Baitullah Kalamuddin Khan (36) and Nadir Sheikh (38) allegedly targeted commuters travelling in crowded buses at different locations, he said, reported PTI.


The police first apprehended Shoeb and Baitullah, who revealed that they sold stolen phones to Nadir who resold them in the market at cheaper rates, he said, reported PTI.


Following a raid at Nadir's house, the police recovered 32 mobile phones, he added, reported PTI.

The trio have been arrested under sections 379 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said, reported PTI.

In another case, the Mumbai police have arrested three persons in connection with the break-in and theft at a shop from where valuables worth Rs 63 lakh were stolen in the western suburb of Khar here, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

The police on Sunday arrested Gulab Ganesh Marwadi alias Akshay (25), Surya Mani Nadar (21) and Sanjay Kedare (19) from the Andheri and Juhu areas, he said, reported PTI.

The trio allegedly broke into a garment shop on Khar Pali road last week and stole gold and diamond jewellery worth more than Rs 63 lakh kept in a locker on the premises, the official said, reported PTI.

The shop owner approached the police with a complaint and an offence was registered, he said, reported PTI.

The police have recovered stolen jewellery worth more than Rs 40 lakh and a motorcycle used in the crime, the official said, adding that the trio have been booked under section 380 (theft) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai police have registered an FIR against a 30-year-old employee of a cash management company for allegedly misappropriating funds worth more than Rs 3 lakh, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

The accused was given the task of filling cash in bank ATMs, keeping its record and solving technical problems in the cash vending machines, the official from Kharghar police station said, reported PTI.

Between September 22 and October 4 last year, the accused allegedly tampered with a cassette of an ATM of a bank branch in Kharghar area and misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 3,05,700, he said, reported PTI.

During the inspection and reconciliation of funds, the fraud came to light and a bank employee filed a police complaint, reported PTI.

Based on the complaint, the police on Monday registered a case against the accused under Indian Penal Code section 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant), the official said, reported PTI.
