The Navghar police are on the lookout for a person who injured a 22-year-old woman when she tried to put up a fight as he was robbing her gold chain. The incident took place on a service road of the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund East on Wednesday morning. The police have registered an offence against the unknown person who is yet to be arrested, under IPC Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing a robbery).


According to the police, on Wednesday around 11.30 am, the complainant, Sejal Thakur, a resident of Sion, was sitting in her car at a service road of the Eastern Express Highway. She was waiting for her friend. Suddenly an unknown person approached the car and opened the door, which was unlocked.

“The person flashed a knife and threatened her with dire consequences. He asked her to give him her golden chain and the money she had. When she tried to put up a fight, he lashed out injuring her index finger,” said an officer from the Navghar police.

He then snatched her gold chain and ran into the swamp near the highway. Thakur called her friend whom she was waiting for, after he arrived they went to Navghar police where an offence was registered.

Sunil Kamble, senior inspector of Navghar police station said, “According to the complainant, she had come in her car and was waiting for her friend when the incident took place. We have booked an offence against an unknown person. The investigation is on.” Chain snatching has become rampant in Mulund East, on June 16, there were two such incidents. In both no one has yet been arrested.
