In a fresh security scare for Bollywood actor Salman Khan, the Mumbai police registered an FIR after he received a new threat, a police official confirmed on Monday.
The message, sent to the Mumbai traffic police helpline, has raised serious concerns about the actor’s safety.
According to police, the threat was read on Sunday by an officer monitoring the helpline.
The message was particularly alarming, stating that they would kill Salman Khan in his own home.
The Mumbai police registered an FIR after the Worli Control Room received the threatening message on WhatsApp.
The sender stated, “Salman Khan ko ghar mein ghus ke marenge” (We will enter Salman Khan’s house and kill him).
Senior officials were immediately apprised of the threat on Sunday, following which an FIR was registered, and an investigation is currently underway.
“This is a fresh threat against actor Salman Khan. We have registered an FIR under Section 351(2)(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Worli police station on Sunday, and investigations are ongoing,” said a senior Mumbai police officer.
The Mumbai traffic police helpline has received many threat messages targeting the 59-year-old actor in the recent past.
Over the last two years, Khan and his family have received numerous death threats. On April 14, 2024 two motorcycle-borne assailants fired five rounds outside his heavily guarded residence, Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. The shooters—identified as Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21)—initially managed to flee to Gujarat. However, they were later apprehended and brought back to Mumbai for further questioning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both the men were acting on the instructions of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and are believed to be among his close associates.
In November last year, the Mumbai police received a threatening message against Khan allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, police said. The threat message gave the actor two options: apologise or pay Rs 5 crore to stay alive.
The threatening message reportedly came from a phone number registered under the name of one claiming to be Sohail Pasha, who identified himself as the writer of the 'Main Sikandar Hoon' song.
According to the police, on November 7, 2024 a series of threatening WhatsApp messages were sent to the Worli Traffic Control Room helpline from a number registered to Sohail Pasha, identified as the writer of the song Main Sikandar Hoon. The messages allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore from the actor, with threats to kill the actor if the money was not paid.
During investigations, the police traced the WhatsApp messages to a phone number registered under the name Banktesh Narayan, who was traced in Karnataka and investigation revealed that Narayan did not have a smartphone and was using an old phone, which lacked both internet connectivity and the WhatsApp application.
As investigations continued, authorities identified Sohail Pasha, alias Sohail Paksha, as the primary suspect. He was believed to have sent the extortion messages to the Mumbai traffic helpline under Narayan's phone number, and was handed over to Worli police for further investigation.
