With all live gigs at a halt, the pandemic has been rough on the music industry, and yet, amidst the prevalent gloom, a group of musicians from across the country have made it a point to pitch in their talents for charity. Popular music producer and DJ Arjun Vagale joined forces with some of the best electronic music producers in the country, to create a charity compilation that donates all proceeds to the Hemkunt Foundation.

“Doing charity compilations is a pretty old concept. My objective was to generate funds now, not a month or two from now because people need help urgently,” says Vagale. After identifying artistes he knew would have tracks in hand, the compilation came together in two hours, and the list was curated, mastered and put out within a span of just three days. The list, launched via Bandcamp, is a perfect mix of diverse artistes with different styles — from down tempo beats, the list gradually moves to dance floor territory, featuring musicians including Murthovic, BLOT!, FUNC and more; each voice offers a distinct sound and style to give the album a diverse sound.

DJ and producer Murthovic, who pitched in with the track Gum Riddim, says, “It’s great to be able to do something with my art; this is my way of giving back to society. I’ve thrived in this sphere for 21 years, and I feel thankful for that. So, when Arjun approached me, his message really resonated.” Another artiste on the list, Kohra aka Madhav Shorey, produced the track Stardust, and was also the talent behind mastering the tracklist. “Although we haven’t been able to do gigs, and incomes have been affected, it’s nothing compared to the situation many are going through. We make money during the good times; it doesn’t mean we can’t help now as well,” reveals Shorey. The response has been good so far, and Vagale is keen to plan another tracklist soon that will feature an entirely different set of artistes.
