Bask in the light of a green lantern

While Diwali celebrations are still fresh in your mind, we suggest you head to the museum for some additional festive cheer. You will be greeted by a 12-feet-tall giant lantern made from 2,000 plastic bottles. The art installation was made as part of the museum's Art for Environment project and is a reminder of the indiscriminate use of plastic, the inappropriate methods of disposal and the havoc it causes to our ecosystem.

The project was kickstarted on October 15 and after gruelling day and night sessions, it was completed on October 25 by the Museum team, including artists and officers. Considering it a tool to raise awareness among children, the museum also roped in children, associated with the NGOs Vande Mataram Foundation and Mumbai Mobile Creches, who worked on the installation and enjoyed a fun day at the museum.

Staying true to the eco-friendly message, the installation will grace the museum lawns for a few weeks and will then be dismantled. The bottles will be sent to the recycling plant where they will ultimately take on new forms and shapes.

At: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, MG Road, Fort.
