Zack Snyder gets prequel comic book for 'Rebel Moon' series

Filmmaker Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon' space opera is getting a comic book prequel series based on the origin story of one of its characters. 'Rebel Moon: Nemesis, ' from Titan Comics, will delve into the story of the Netflix film's cyborg sword master, Nemesis, played on-screen by Doona Bae, reported Variety. The comic series, from award-winning writer Gail Simone and artist Federico Bertoni, will take place before Nemesis became a sword-wielding, partly mechanical assassin. It is described as an "action-packed and badass story in the style of a revenge western, in which an innocent woman finds herself in the path of Imperium soldiers who slaughter her family," as per the outlet.  "I feel like this story was a little bit destined to happen, somehow. My family and I were watching 'Rebel Moon' and really enjoying it, and I just immediately focused on Nemesis," said writer Simone. "I loved the badassery of her, but also the way she addressed grief and recognized it in others. I just was completely smitten with her, and I actually said to my family: Man, I would love to write her someday."  Simone added, "Well, someone was listening because I get this message that Zack would like to talk to me about writing that exact character. Who am I to argue with fate? She's a powerful character. She leaps off the page (and screen), and I cannot even explain how much I enjoyed playing in this sandbox." "Rebel Moon: Nemesis" marks the second comic book spin-off series following "Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe," written by Snyder, released in early 2024 and also published by Titan.  "I'm so excited for fans to be back in the world of 'Rebel Moon' -- there are so many stories yet to be discovered, and the tale of Nemesis and her revenge is one fans won't want to miss," said Titan Comics editor Jake Devine, adding, "Not only does it unwrap the enigma of her character, but it has some epic assassinations, beautiful locations, and badass showdowns. Working with Gail has been a dream, and I can't wait for readers to immerse themselves in this extended universe that she's created," reported Variety. Saif Ali Khan dishes out on how to stay relevant in the Gen Z fashion space

As the exciting trailer of "Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins" reached the audience on Monday, Saif Ali Khan reflected on predicting the Gen Z trends.   Claiming that it is very difficult to predict trends, Saif stressed that if one strongly feels something, chances are that people will agree with you. Speaking during the trailer launch event, the 'Omkara' actor shared "I think if you follow yourself- clothes for example- I had a sense of fashion because it's what I believe in my heart. So, if you strongly feel something, chances are people will agree with you, but if you try and imagine what anybody else would want you'll fail because it is impossible to do that." Additionally, speaking about the film, the producers shared, “As filmmakers, we’re constantly exploring new ways to tell stories that are stylish, compelling, and surprising. With 'Jewel Thief', we wanted to create a cinematic universe that felt both classic and fresh — a modern-day heist with emotion and pace. This is our first streaming venture, and we couldn't have asked for a better partner than Netflix to bring that vision to life. The story is slick, the characters are layered, and the scale is massive, so gear up for this action-packed adventure.” Starring Saif Ali Khan as Rehan Roy — a charming and cunning thief with wits as sharp as his moves — and Jaideep Ahlawat as Rajan Aulakh, a cool and calculated mafia boss, the heist thriller boasts a star-studded ensemble cast. Joining them are Kunal Kapoor as Vikram Patel, a relentless detective determined to catch the thief red-handed, and Nikita Dutta as Farah, who has stolen a different kind of jewel, Rehan Roy’s heart. As loyalties shift and motives blur, the race begins for the ultimate prize: the coveted African Red Sun jewel. Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, and produced by Marflix Pictures in its streaming debut, "Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins" marks the first collaboration between Netflix and the production house founded by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand. "Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins" will stream on Netflix from April 25. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Ali Fazal on juggling between Rakt Bramhand & Prosit Roy’s next

Shapeshifting is a joy for any actor, but for Ali Fazal, navigating two different worlds is both exhilarating and mind-boggling. While the actor plays a king in Netflix’s fantasy drama Rakt Bramhand, he is also shooting for Amazon Prime Video’s gritty crime thriller helmed by Prosit Roy. “Rakt Bramhand is an expansive period drama, a genre I’ve never explored at this scale, while Prosit Roy’s thriller is raw and intense. The mental shift required between these projects is immense, but I thrive on unpredictability, and this phase is allowing me to explore the full spectrum of my craft,” says the actor. Rakt Bramhand is created by (from left) Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK  Fazal is currently juggling the two projects’ shoot in Mumbai. He notes that one day he is in heavy robes, walking through the palatial sets built for creator duo Raj-DK’s series that also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Wamiqa Gabbi. The next day, he is in the back alleys playing a man, who has seen the dark side of humanity, for Roy’s yet-untitled thriller. “Rakt Bramhand is a poetic, political drama set in a fantastical past. The language, the body language, everything about it demands discipline. In contrast, my role in the crime thriller is all grime and grit,” he shares. The actor, who is also set to make his Tamil debut with Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, considers this phase of his career deeply fulfilling. “Working on my south debut, while also engaging with two OTT dramas and wrapping up Metro… In Dino has been exhilarating. There are days when I feel like my head is in three time zones at once. But I’m not complaining—this is what I live for,” he grins. Prosit Roy

Exclusive: Shanaya Kapoor's Student of the Year 3 set to go on floors

Will it happen? Will it not? For the past six years, the question has loomed large over Student of the Year 3 (SOTY 3), which was to launch Shanaya Kapoor in Bollywood. Now, mid-day has learnt that the third instalment of the Karan Johar-backed campus caper is set to go on floors later this month. No prizes for guessing that Kapoor will headline the project that will roll in Mumbai.     While some things remain constant in SOTY 3, some aspects have undergone an overhaul. The latest edition of the campus drama will be a web series, unlike the first two film instalments. Debutant director Reema Maya, who previously helmed the 2023 acclaimed short Nocturnal Burger, will be in charge of the six-episode show. “SOTY 3 has been taking shape for the past six years. Finally, Karan has given the green signal and the unit plans to begin filming it from April 20. It will be a tight schedule of just over 30 days to shoot six episodes,” informs a source. Reema Maya and Karan Johar With SOTY having launched at least five actors over its past two instalments, producer Johar had hoped SOTY 3 would mark Kapoor’s foray into Bollywood. But after the project hit a roadblock, followed by Bedhadak that didn’t materialise as well, the youngster signed Vrushabha, a bilingual film in Malayalam and Telugu, opposite Mohanlal. While she will make her Bollywood debut with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan opposite Vikrant Massey, she will also be seen in director Bejoy Nambiar’s Tu Yaa Main. Brad Pitt eyes sequel to Netflix's hit miniseries 'Adolescence'

The popular Netflix series 'Adolescence' may be getting a sequel as Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment, is in early talks with Netflix and director Philip Barantini for what could become a second season of the British crime drama. In a recent interview with Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner shared that they are discussing the "next version" of the story with Barantini. The first season was co-created by actor Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne. Gardner said they want to expand the story without losing what made it special. Kleiner added they hope Graham and Thorne will return for the sequel. "Phil's style of doing the episodes in one take is not a gimmick. It's very much in conversation with the subject matter," Dede Gardner told Deadline. "In early conversations with Stephen and Jack, they were talking about how it's too easy to look away. You can look away from the school, you can look away from the police station, you can look away from the counseling, you can look away from the family. In that kind of prismatic way of viewing, you can duck the issue. So our theory was, what would happen if you couldn't look away? And will that make the subject embed in you in a different way? That was a thrilling thing," he added. Meanwhile, the popular crime miniseries 'Adolescence' is still going strong on Netflix, as the British show has now reached the fourth spot on Netflix's Most Popular English TV list, climbing from ninth place just last week, reported Deadline. According to the publication, from March 31 to April 6, the show pulled in another 17.8 million views, indicating that viewers are still hooked on it even a month after its release. Adolescence is a British crime drama miniseries created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham and directed by Philip Barantini. The four-episode series follows the arrest of a 13-year-old schoolboy, Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, who is accused of murdering a female classmate. What also makes the series a masterclass is that each episode is filmed in a single, continuous take. Graham, who is the co-creator of the show, also plays Eddie Miller, the father of the accused Jamie Miller. The series premiered on Netflix on March 13 and has received widespread critical acclaim for its writing, direction, and performances. Shefali Shah shares an unseen footage from her inital acting days

Acclaimed actress Shefali Shah believes her biggest strength is her ability to laugh at herself.    The 'Delhi Crime' actress dropped an old clip of herself from her early days as an actress on her IG, owning the flaws in front of the camera. Looking back at those days, Shefali wrote in the caption, "When I started acting, I had no clue what I was doing or why. But I had dreams. Dreams fuelled by what I saw on screen. Dreams woven by YRF, dreams of being that vision in white on a terrace full of rose petals." Sharing she was smitten by a female superstar back in those days, and hence tried to act like her on-screen. She added, " I was smitten by this mega superstar. She was everything dreams are made of. She made us laugh, cry and she made us dream. She was everything I aspired to be. I was flattered When people said I looked like her and my self-esteem soared. Naively, I believed all I had to do now was act like her. So I began copying her. And the more I did, the more people said I reminded them of her. That was a huge ego boost. This clip is from somewhere in between trying to be her, and definitely not being myself. But suddenly I realised I wasn’t a good mimic. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t be her. No one could." However, she later decided to come into her own - "So I dropped the act. And Along with it, I dropped the only crutch I had and I now had to stand on my own feet", the 'Jalsa' actress penned. Shefali also had some advice for her younger self that went like this, "Well, I want to tell this girl I see on screen that it’s fine to turn away from the audience or the camera. Everything does not have to be about your face. Look at the person you are talking to(not into oblivion). Listen(in a scene and in life) Lower your pitch you are talking to a person not a whale."
