Varun Sood: Barely had carbs or salt

Varun Sood and Raveena Tandon

After featuring in Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022), influencer-turned-actor Varun Sood has bagged a pivotal role in Karmma Calling, led by Raveena Tandon. The series, an adaptation of the original US show Revenge, delves into the world of glamour, deceit and betrayal as it follows the Kothari family’s journey. While Tandon plays Indrani Kothari, Sood plays her son Ahaan, who is torn between the family’s legacy and his heart.

The actor says he had to attain a chiselled physique to slip into the role of Ahaan, who has women drooling over him. Developing a rigorous workout routine and a no-carb diet was the first step towards becoming the character. Sood shares, “It was intense to manage my workouts and shoot every day. There were times when I’d shoot for 12 to 15 hours, and then head to the gym for two hours. I was barely having any carbs or salt. Following a disciplined diet was the challenging part, especially while I was shooting.”

Director Ruchi Narain’s clarity of vision further aided him in perfecting his role of a flamboyant yet vulnerable guy in the Disney+ Hotstar drama. “She spoiled me as an actor by making things so easy for me. She helped me get into the character’s mind.”
