In the past few months, India has been battling with the second wave of Coronavirus. From  lack of oxygen to non-availability of beds and other resources, our country has seen the worst health crisis of all time.And during this testing time, we saw many celebrities  doing their best to help India fight COVID-19 They are also appealing to fans and admirers to support the relief measures. Take a look at actors who are helping people at this hour of need:


 



 

Sonu Sood

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in India, actor Sonu Sood has turned into a real-life hero. The actor who is also known as the messiah is leading the charge, by providing transportation, medication, arranging for beds, oxygen and even encouraging people to get vaccinated as the coronavirus. Sood, who also fought off the virus, took to his Instagram to urge more people to come forward and help those who are suffering due to COVID-19. In one of his posts on social media, the actor shared a screen recording of his phone that shows how he was bombarded by people asking for help continuously.  “The speed at which we get requests across the country. Trying my best to reach out to everyone. Everyone...Please come forward. We need more helping hands. Do your best to the best of your capabilities,” he wrote.

 

Salman Khan

Salman Khan’s NGO (non-governmental organisation) Being Human Foundation has launched a food truck that is providing meals to frontline workers and the local police in Mumbai. In the past, the actor's team contacted Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) to get the bank account details of the daily wage workers registered with the federation. The actor directly credited Rs 1,500 to the bank account of each worker.

 

Amitabh Bachchan

Apart from spreading awareness about the virus, Amitabh Bachchan is doing his bit to help the underprivileged families and migrant workers in these testing times. It is reported that the superstar pledged at least Rs 15 crore till date in India's fight against the  pandemic. In one of his social media posts the actor also mentioned that he won't hesitate to contribute more from his "personal funds" if the need arises. From arranging more than 10 buses to his home-state Uttar Pradesh to send migrant workers home to distributing dry ration to the needy and even donating more than 20,000 PPE kits to hospitals, police stations, BMC offices and funeral places and even organising for ventilators and beds, the actor and his team is constantly doing something to help those who are in need.

 

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna

The couple have stepped up to fight the good fight as India grapples through a COVID-19 crisis. Khanna, who is also a celebrated author, took to Twitter to share that she and her husband were donating 100 oxygen concentrators in an effort to contribute to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier, Khanna had also shared a link to a platform accepting donations to provide meals for families during this crisis. Last week Kumar donated Rs1 crore to former cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir’s foundation to help victims of the coronavirus in any capacity.

 

Ajay Devgn

 Ajay Devgn, along with a few colleagues of the film fraternity, have pitched in with help for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to set up an emergency medical unit at Shivaji Park in the city. The municipal body had made a makeshift COVID-19 facility of 20 beds with ventilators, oxygen support and para monitors. Additionally, Devgn contributed funds for the effort through his social service wing NY Foundations.

 

Hrithik Roshan

The Bollywood star joined global personalities including singers Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello to raise funds for podcaster and author Jay Shetty's Help India Breathe fundraiser. Roshan donated $15,000 towards the cause which ended up raising more than $3.6 million for Give India.

 

Asyuhamann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana and his wife Tahira Kashyap have come forward to contribute to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s Relief Fund to help aid people crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Khurrana shared a note on his Instagram account thanking every person who has inspired the couple to contribute more towards helping people ravaged by the health crisis. The couple also requested Indians to come forward to help aid people in need.“This is the time when we should come together as a community and care for each other. People need as much help as possible and we can all look to do our bit as we deem fit,” they said in a social media post.

 

Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi Pednekar, who herself battled COVID-19 last month, has been really active on social media. She has been constantly facilitating those who are sending out appeals on social media. The actress has been busy sharing hospital numbers, while retweeting tweets of those who are looking for hospital beds, oxygen and other emergency supplies. 

 

Shilpa Shetty

Apart from raising concern regarding hunger amid the coronavirus crisis, she also initiated a platform called ‘Report Hunger – Khaana Chahiye Foundation’ with which she is providing cooked meals or groceries to the needy with her team. 'I usually share information to motivate you... But today, I need a lot of motivation. I'm not OK, none of us are. We are experiencing this inexplicable pain from all that's happening around us,' Shetty had posted on social media, appealing to her fans and friends in the industry to help as much as they can.

 

Suniel Shetty

Suniel Shetty was seen arranging oxygen cylinders to bridge the shortage in India as many grappled with the second wave of COVID-19. He has launched an initiative urging his fans to contribute to ‘Mission MillionAir’ in an effort to provide free oxygen to those who can’t afford adequate healthcare in India.

 

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez used her social media reach to keep people’s spirits up during the pandemic. The actress shared advice on breathing exercise tips as an effective way to deal with lockdown.
