Mukesh Bhatt: We shouldn’t have announced Aashiqui 3 so early

Anurag Basu and Kartik Aaryan

Since its announcement last year, Aashiqui 3 continues to be one of the most anticipated Bollywood films. But along with the buzz comes intense speculation around the romantic drama, which will be led by Kartik Aaryan and helmed by Anurag Basu. It was recently reported that the musical would go into production in January 2024. Co-producer Mukesh Bhatt, however, points out that the team has yet to begin scripting. “Anurag is currently busy with another film. After he gets free and writes a script, we’ll see whether we like it. If we do, we will go ahead with it. Similarly, Kartik has to like the script. Then we will decide on the music. We want to do Aashiqui 3 in the right manner,” he says.

Last month, mid-day reported that Bhatt was so miffed after a song was circulated as an Aashiqui 3 track that he issued a public notice asserting that his studio is the owner of the franchise’s intellectual property rights (If Anurag doesn’t like the script, we can make it with another director, Oct 7). Tired of rumours surrounding the project, Bhatt says, “We shouldn’t have made the announcement so early. Every other day, there is speculation around the film or its casting. I’m tired of these stories coming out of nowhere.”
