Have you heard? All’s well that ends well between Akshay Kumar and Kapil Sharma

Kapil Sharma and Akshay Kumar

Following news of a fallout between Akshay Kumar and Kapil Sharma, the latter took to Twitter to share, “Was reading all the news in the media about me and Akshay paji. I have spoke to paji and sorted it out. It was miscommunication. All is well, and soon we will be meeting to shoot the Bachchan Pandey episode. He is my big brother who can never be annoyed with me (sic).” Kumar was apparently miffed after he had reportedly told the team to not use part of the content shot during his last visit, which had a reference to Modi. The section, however, was leaked online. It is stated that Kumar had asked the channel for clarification.

Akhtar bats for the common man

Javed Akhtar has written a few lines for the promo of the show Wagle Ki Duniya as it completes one year. Sharing what he likes the most about the show, he says, “[The show’s] little moments, the joys and sorrows that we have shared together as a family, despite being different as individuals [is what I like]. I don’t think there are too many stories that reflect this dichotomy as realistically as this show does.”

Mangeshkar par of AU syllabus

Students in the department of music and performing arts in Allahabad University (AU) will now study the life, struggles and achievements of iconic singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar.  Prof Vidyadhar Prasad Mishra, head of the department, said, “A proposal to include the life of Lata Mangeshkar in the curriculum has been prepared. It would be part of a soon-to-be-launched five-year integrated course. The unit based on veteran singers of the country would be implemented after getting formal approvals.”

Taking the lead

Bareilly Ki Barfi maker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has joined the advisory board of a women-only platform, which aims to create a positive digital experience for women worldwide. “If I can be an anchor of many unknown talented women and their expression, we can build a battalion of strong compassionate humans who create an equal space for women with their own identity,” she said.

Same, but different

Ranveer Singh, who has a distinct slate of films in the pipeline, says he has been taking steps to ensure he plays different characters on screen. “It’s a personal challenge that I throw at myself every single time I take up a new character. That’s what excites me. I would feel a bit bored or jaded if I were to do the same thing over and over again. I want to make films that are memorable, that connect with people, like they can feel nostalgia, catharsis, they can laugh, they can cry, they can applaud,” says the actor.

A win for India

Delhi-based filmmakers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh’s documentary Writing with Fire has earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Documentary Feature category. The documentary film has been making headlines since it won the Special Jury (Impact for Change) and Audience awards at the Sundance Film Festival in January last year.

A big miss for India?

Director Tha Se Gnanavel’s Tamil courtroom drama Jai Bhim and Priyadarshan’s Malayalam war film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, failed to make it to the list of nominations for the 94th Academy Awards that were announced yesterday, and hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan.

Not the same anymore

Mithun Chakraborty, who had made his debut with Mrigayaa, is gearing up for his digital debut with Bestseller. Chakraborty said he has become picky about the projects he stars in today. “I am more than 370 films old now. There was a time when I would do four shifts a day where the dialogues and scenes would almost be the same. Today, I only do those roles which pinch me.”
