Many a times, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been called out by the public for "promoting" the political agendas of the ruling party. The actor, in a conversation with a news channel, has opened up about the topic.

The actor addressed the allegations from the people regarding 'promoting' the political party BJP's agendas. Akshay, in a conversation with India Today, shared, “Lots of times people say that they promoted Swachh Bharat Mission and I made Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. They had a Mars Mission and I made Mission Mangal. Aisa nahi hai, maine Airlift bhi banai, us waqt Congress ka raaj tha. (It’s not like that. When I made Airlift, Congress party was in power). No one talked about that. Even Mission Raniganj is set during Congress’ tenure. It is about the bigness and goodness and what happened. It doesn't matter who was in power. What matters is what was done for the betterment of the country.”

Earlier, Akshay faced a lot of backlash for his Canadian citizenship. Talking about it the actor shared, “Even though I had a Canadian passport, I paid all of my taxes here. I was the highest-paying taxpayer. I had no idea people were so disturbed. Because of the pandemic, it took nearly a year and a half for me to apply for citizenship. Surprisingly, I received it on August 15.”

Akshay Kumar is known to present tales of bravery and extraordinary heroism in his films. After delivering a bunch of socio-dramas, the actor has returned to theatres once again this year, but with a biopic this time. Titled Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, it is inspired by a real-life incident that took place in November 1989.

Earlier, the actor in an interview with News 18 shared the reason for changing the tagline of his recently released film Mission Raniganj. The actor shared, “I agree India is not wrong and is also right. Bharat is a great name and it is in our constitution so we decided to change it.” Mission Raniganj also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and others. It was released in theatres on October 6, 2023.
