After winning accolades for his Punjabi numbers from Bollywood folk, Jassi Gill seems to have made a natural progression into acting with his upcoming film Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. It was only inevitable then that parallels be drawn between Gill and Diljit Dosanjh, who also set foot in the industry owing to his music, but soon drew applauses for his prowess before the cameras.

Yet, Gill isn't one to pit himself against Dosanjh. "I have been listening to his songs since school. I have been a fan of his work. He is an inspiration for me, and many other people from Punjab. He has opened doors for us," says Gill devotedly, adding that Dosanjh can even be credited for drawing Bollywood's attention towards Punjabi talent.
He asserts that comparisons have not caused bad blood between the two. "They don't matter. I am aware that some people genuinely appreciate work, while others try to create a rift. I am aware of my equation with him."
Talking about making his debut with the Sonakshi Sinha starrer, the actor-singer reveals that he wasn't aware he was being considered for the role until his audition got over. "I thought the team wanted me to sing a song in the film. When I came to Mumbai and met the director [Mudassar Aziz], he asked me to narrate my story. That was my audition," he says, evidently excited to share screen space with Sinha. "She is among my favourite actors."
