Popular television actress Sanjeeda Shaikh is currently basking in the success of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. Sanjeeda, who is separated from her actor-husband Aamir Ali shares a daughter Ayra Ali, who is four years old. In a recent interview, she shared how she overcame that phase of her life and propagated self-love.

Sanjeeda told Hauterrfly, “I feel I am very lucky (to have emerged from) whatever happened with me. Maybe I felt then that I was the most depressed person, or I was very sad, or, ‘What is happening with me, what is happening with my life?’ But to overcome all of that and to be happy with this version of myself, I am blessed.”

In addition to that, she also shared how a woman is belittled in a relationship. “There are men, and there are partners who try to demotivate you, who tell you that you can’t do anything. Or they will say you will not be able to do this. It’s better to be away from such people. There are phases in every relationship where you are happy, and then there are some when you are not, and then you take a call for your life and that’s what I did for myself, because I started loving myself and I started prioritising myself and that is very, very important,” added Sanjeeda.

Sanjeeda Shaikh is being lauded for her role as Waheeda in the web series. Opening up about how she prepared for the series, Sanjeeda said, "Waheeda was a pretty challenging character to embody. Sanjay Sir has crafted this very complicated but well-rounded character. She has so many layers to her, it's almost like she exists at odds with her own self most times. It's hard to explain what's exactly going on in her head but if you observe closely and if my performance resonates the way I intended, then I think the audience will be able to get a grasp of what she feels like."

Set against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s, 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' promises to be an epic saga of love, power, revenge, and freedom. Through the stories of courtesans and their patrons, the series delves deep into the cultural reality of Heeramandi.

'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' is streaming on Netflix. Sonakshi Sinha, Fardeen Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman are also a part of 'Heeramandi'.
