The ITSF Padmashri Mahendra Kapoor Award Show was a memorable evening that dazzled a celebrity-filled audience, thanks to captivating performances by legendary singer Mahendra Kapoor’s son Ruhan Kapoor and grandson Sidhant Kapoor — both acclaimed artists in their own right.
Esteemed figures from the Indian music and film industry, including singers Anup Jalota, Sudesh Bhosale, Harshdeep Kaur, and actors like Usha Nadkarni, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vindu Dara Singh, Divyanka Tripathi, and Nikitin Dheer were in attendance. The highlight of the night was the soulful musical tribute by Ruhan and Sidhant Kapoor, who carried forward the great legacy of Mahendra Kapoor with heart and elegance.
Paying homage to the legendary filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who passed away recently, Ruhan performed the iconic patriotic number ‘Hai Preet Jahaan’. The performance ignited national pride, and chants of ‘Jai Hind’ echoed across the auditorium. With decades of live performances at renowned venues including Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, and Palais Garnier, Ruhan’s polished stage presence was evident throughout the show.
Sidhant Kapoor, meanwhile, moved the audience with his emotive versions of two of his grandfather’s classic hits — ‘Chalo Ek Baar Phir Se’ and ‘Neele Gagan Ke Tale’. Sudesh Bhosale remarked that Sidhant's voice instantly reminded him of a young Mahendra Kapoor. The host shared that Sidhant was mentored by his father and grandfather from a young age, and also pursued formal education in Indian Classical and Western music. A postgraduate in composition from London’s Trinity Laban College of Music, Sidhant is now involved in international music projects spanning films and streaming platforms. He also recently launched How Music is Made, a social media series that demystifies the creative process behind music-making through short, captivating videos — earning praise from music fans everywhere.
Held at the Y.B. Chavan Auditorium on April 11, the award show honored artists and achievers from various fields. Organized by Dattatraya Mane, the event featured Ruhan and Sidhant Kapoor as ‘Guests of Honour’. Chief Guest Shri Uday Samant, Honourable Minister for Industries, Government of Maharashtra, paid rich tribute to the Kapoor family’s legacy in his speech, praising their enduring contribution to Indian music.
The evening ended on a high with Ruhan and Sidhant performing the beloved patriotic song ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’. Joined by dignitaries on stage, their emotional rendition was met with a standing ovation, concluding the event with a deep sense of unity and celebration.
