A formidable Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns with Mumbai Indians in the 60th fixture of the IPL 2024. The match is set to be played at the Eden Gardens at 7.30 PM
The last time KKR faced MI in the ongoing edition was on May 3rd. The Knights then broke their 12-year jinx as they defeated Paltan in their home ground, Wankhede Stadium by 24 runs
Both teams have clashed against each other on 33 occasions out of which the Mumbaikars have the upper hand with 23 wins. So far, KKR have registered 10 victories against Mumbai Indians
This will be Mumbai Indians' first match after their elimination from the IPL 2024 qualification race. There are very thin chances of resting star player like Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. But if Bumrah gets rested, then Akash Madhwal will likely secure his place in the playing XI
Rohit Sharma, who will lead Team India in the global showpiece has seen an unexpected dig in his form. After his century against Chennai Super Kings, the right-hander was seen struggling to score many runs
Also, Kolkata's star all-rounder Sunil Narine who is also enjoying his run with the bat has a good record against Rohit. Narine has bamboozled Rohit 10 times in the 25 T20 faceoffs
The Kolkata track is likely to favour batsmen ahead of the games. Opening batsmen Sunil Narine and Phil Salt will be well aware of their home ground and will look to make the most out of the first powerplay
The interesting thing to look out will be the inclusion of Manish Pandey. In the previous match against MI, Pandey played as an impact player for KKR and scored 42 runs off 31 deliveries which were laced with 2 fours and 2 sixes
Kolkata Knight Riders are enjoying the top spot on the IPL 2024 points table with eight wins from 11 matches. They will look to continue their momentum today against Mumbaikars
Hardik Pandya-led MI have only managed to win four matches out of 12 and is the first team to get eliminated from the tournament
KKR will also expect their lead pacer Mitchell Starc to bring his best for further matches. He is also the most expensive player in the IPL history (Rs. 24.75 crores)
The Knights have also found a reliable pacer in the form of Harshit Rana. In nine games, the aggressive pacer has bagged 14 scalps. His best bowling figures are three wickets for 24 runs
Jasprit Bumrah is the only MI player on the list of top 10 leading wicket-takers in the ongoing season. He has 18 wickets in 12 matches with the best bowling figures of 21 runs for five wickets
Varun Chakaravarthy is in third place with 16 wickets and Narine sits in seventh place with 14 wickets. The spinners have been fruitful throughout the season for KKR
Narine with the willow has also accumulated 461 runs in 11 IPL 2024 matches. Currently, he is the sixth player on the list of leading run-scorers
