The cost of construction of Delisle Road bridge is set to go up a second time, by Rs 14 crore. The construction of the bridge was originally pegged at Rs 114 crore as per the civic body's 2020 proposal. After multiple time extensions since its original deadline of March 2022, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) says the bridge will be completed in October this year.

"As part of the total original construction cost of Rs 114 crore, the civic body paid Rs 78 crore to the Railways for construction work over the tracks. The first cost escalation was worth Rs 18 crore in 2022. The bridge first faced delays due to the pandemic, then gravel shortage, and then heavy rain," said a BMC official.
"This time, the cost has been escalated due to the repair of the approach road, the repair of stormwater drains, and the erection of a noise barrier on the road. The BMC has also decided to construct a skywalk from Lower Parel railway station to the monorail station. These works were not included in the original tender. We took administrative approval last year for cost escalation. Soon, a proposal will be passed for the latest increase," the BMC official added.

The Delisle Road bridge was pulled down in 2018. On June 1, the BMC opened one arm of the bridge between Lower Parel to Railway Workshop. After a prolonged wait and protests by residents, the second arm which connects N M Joshi road to Lower Parel, was opened on Sunday.
