In their much-coveted opera appreciation series, an encore is set to happen in the form of a third workshop. And this time, taking the lead will be pianist and opera accompanist Mark Troop, who will later be joined by Italian composer and conductor Massimo Tadia. In the vein of the previous workshops, this one will continue to unravel that enigmatic genre of the opera.

The session will see Troop turn to practical aspects of realising an opera on stage, using nuggets from the upcoming production at the venue, Josef Haydn's La Fedelta Premiata. From production elements to costuming, music direction and set design, the workshop will give participants a complete behind-the-scenes peek into how an elaborate operatic production comes alive on stage.

The workshop is being spearheaded by Avid Learning, a public programming platform. This is part of the second opera season, a continuation of the ongoing series of opera appreciation sessions. "Opera in India is still a novel concept, if not unheard of. The idea here is to educate people about opera. We did a workshop in February and then another one in April that delved into the history of the opera and took people closer to the subject," says Asad Lalljee, curator, The Royal Opera House.

This workshop will be a precursor to La Fedelta. Lalljee adds, "We will be demonstrating opera techniques. We have the fabulous voice coach, Tedia, and some singers of the opera. It will be held at The Quarter. Later, participants will also get to go on stage for a bit of practicals."
