Putting the subconscious on stage
Imagine your mind to be a strip of photographic film on which a story leaves its impression. That’s kind of the Inception-like treatment that director Tushar Tukaram Dalvi has given The Darkroom Project, an intimate blackbox theatre compilation of five short stories. This production by Rangaai Theatre Company is experimental and touches on the Theatre of Cruelty and Surrealism of the 1930s. But what should really get you going are the five shorts, among which are Lihaaf by Ismat Chughtai and Khol Do by Saadat Hasan Manto. These tales are personal and psychological, and like a photograph, could stay on forever in our minds.
