Don Bosco High School (Matunga) reasserted their supremacy in Mumbai school hockey as they emerged supreme, winning both the Fr Donnelly Cup for boys under-14 and the Junior Aga Khan Trophy for boys under-16 in the MSSA inter-school hockey tournaments at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate, on Saturday.

The Matunga boys once again underlined their superiority over arch-rivals St Stanislaus High School (Bandra), defeating them in both finals. In the under-14 summit clash, Don Bosco ‘A’ beat St Stanislaus 5-4 via penalty shootout after the score read 1-1 at full time.

Don Bosco took the lead through Aarav Phanse’s field goal in the 24th minute, before Stanislaus immediately equalised through Skye D’Costa in the 25th minute.

In the shootout, the Bosco boys scored off their first four attempts through Arnav Khot, Aarav, Parth Chintal and Royden Koli. The Stanislaus lads managed to convert only the first three tries, through Skye, Rudra Sarmalkar and Zidane Fernandes, while Lamb Michael and Zeus Dharmai failed to beat the Bosco goalkeeper.

In the under-16 final, a dominant Don Bosco scored once in each half to blank Stanislaus 2-0.

Don Bosco opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a field goal from Ishant Sharma and went into the interval with a slender 1-0 advantage.

On resumption, the Matunga boys continued to call the shots and doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Rohan Varkhade found the back of the Stanislaus goal from another field effort to seal the triumph.
