Three cheers, Nihal

Nihal Dudwadkar bagged a hat-trick as Don Bosco High School (Matunga) thrashed Our Lady of Dolours High School (Marine Lines) 8-0 to win the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised Ahmed Sailor under-16 boys hockey tournament at Sports Authority of India (SAI) ground, Kandivli yesterday. Kris Benson, Samar Khalatkar, Lenser Pereira, Faizuddin Siddiqui and Wallace Britto were the other scores for the Matunga side.

Both teams were jittery in the early minutes of the game. However, it was Don Bosco who were able to soak up the pressure first. They opened their account in the 11th minute when Nihal intercepted a pass from Benjamin Lobo and guided it perfectly for a goal. The striker doubled his side's lead in the 13th minute when he outfoxed Dolours goalkeeper Parimal Joshi with a reverse hit from close range. With a two goal lead, Don Bosco were in control of the match. To add to the opposition's woes, the Matunga side received a penalty corner in the dying minutes of the first half. Kris grabbed the opportunity and scored in the 25th minute.

The goal rush continued after Lenser, Faizuddin and Wallace took advantage of the Dolours' defense and scored in the 32nd, 33rd and 40th minute respectively. Nihal completed his hat-trick in the 30th minute when he found the net after receiving a pass from Preet Parmar. Meanwhile, St Stanislaus High School (Bandra) beat Children's Academy (Malad) 2-0 to bag the third place. Jatin Vaidya and Saurabh Mayekar scored a goal apiece for the Bandra team.
