Jain Sprinter's Championship: Shroff 'thrilled' with one-two

The Multidimensional - Adamile four-year-old filly Amelia, who was asked by her trainer Pesi Shroff to take on the best sprinters in western India within eight days of her last victory, justified the master trainer’s confidence in her ability by winning the grade 2, SC Jain Sprinters’ Championship, the stellar attraction of Mahalaxmi’s Sunday race card. In a clever piece of riding, S Zervan, who had settled Amelia to race a close fourth as Dancing Phoenix set a scorching pace, grabbed the initiative 100 meters from the wire to prevail by half a length over stable mate Mariinsky, who found herself behind a wall of horses at a crucial juncture when jockey Trevor Patel tried to improve her from the last position by pushing her along the inner rails.

“I am thrilled by this result, having finished one-two. I feel both my fillies (Amelia and Mariinsky) now deserve to be invited in both the Sprinters and the Super Mile categories during the Invitation Cup weekend (March 1 & 2) at Hyderabad,” said an elated Pesi Shroff.

When asked who between the two will run the Sprinters Cup and who will opt for the Super Mile, he said, “Why, both of them will run in both the races; they are both strong fillies, and they can take that kind of rigour.”

Meanwhile, Toroloco, trained by the Bangalore-based trainer Irfan Ghatala, won the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Eclipse Stake of India (grade 2), the other prime attraction of the day.
