The duo capitalized on nearly every over, regularly finding the fence and putting pressure on the hosts. The 50-run partnership came up in the sixth over, highlighted by Sudharsan’s elegant flick over square leg off Avesh Khan as GT raced to 64 in the powerplay.
Gill, looking in sublime touch, took charge as Sudharsan played the supporting role. The captain displayed effortless timing, cutting and pulling with ease before launching Aiden Markram down the ground for a majestic six over long-on. Gujarat reached 103 without loss at the 10-over mark. Sudharsan had a stroke of luck when he was dropped by Abdul Samad off Digvesh in the 11th over, and he soon brought up his fifty with a fine sweep to the boundary. The duo sent the ball to all corners of the ground, leaving LSG bowlers searching for answers. However, the tide turned in the 13th over as Gill fell to a sensational boundary catch by Markram off Avesh Khan, giving LSG their first breakthrough.
Shortly after the strategic timeout, Sudharsan followed suit, miscuing a lofted drive off Ravi Bishnoi (2/36) to be caught at extra cover by Nicholas Pooran. Bishnoi struck again in the same over, as Washington Sundar dragged a delivery back onto his stumps.
