Mumbai's Dharavi-based cricketer Simran Shaikh almost lost hopes when no franchise seemed interested in bidding for her. However, she revealed to mid-day that her selection by UP Warriorz for Rs 10 lakh, was akin to her hitting a six off the last ball to win a game.

“I thought it was all over for me. But at the last moment, the UP team owners raised their hands and took me. I can’t explain my emotions. Rs 10 lakh is huge money for us [her family]; we have never seen such an amount. I will help my parents with this money,” Simran told mid-day on Monday.

When asked how excited she is to play with and against top Indian and overseas players, she said: “I have played with Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and other Indian cricketers, but now I will get a chance to play with and against top international players. I will give my best and make it count.”
